Rich & Spicy Spice Blend, 50g
Numerous fragrant spices come together in this full-flavoured blend. With a complex, aromatic base and smoky elements combined with a subtle fruity tang and a strong bite of chilli heat, it has delicious richness and intensity.
Aromatic spices such as green cardamom, coriander and bay, with their floral, herbaceous nuances, give complexity to the blend. Ginger and pepper add a layer of warmth that bolsters the heat from the Kashmiri and chipotle chillies, and the smoky flavours from the chipotle, black cardamom, smoked paprika and smoked garlic, complimented by fenugreek and turmeric, provide a slightly sweet and earthy depth. We’ve offset this with a little amchoor – dried green mango powder – which has a sour fruitiness that adds brightness to the rich heat of the spices.
This blend has a natural affinity with charred flavours – whether you mix it with yoghurt and use as a tandoori style marinade, or combine with oil and lime juice to make a spicy, fruity dressing for shredded cabbage, perfect as an accompaniment with halloumi kebabs, charred corn on the cob or griddled steak.
WHY DON'T WE ADD SUGAR OR SALT TO OUR BLENDS?
The spices we skilfully combine give such a flavour boost on their own, so we don't add salt or sugar to our blends. Some spices have an inherent sweetness - combining these makes delicious, sweet-tasting blends. There are a few exceptions, such as our Smoky Maple Rub, in which we use a small amount of maple sugar to offset the flavours of the spices, and our Spiced Coffee Sugar. Other spices we utilise for their deeply savoury qualities. Salt is sometimes used whilst processing sumac berries and in curing chillies such as Urfa and Aleppo, and as such, may be present in small quantities in some of our blends. We also have a small range of flavoured salts, in which we combine natural sea salt or rock salt with delicious herbs and spices.
You may like to add a sprinkle of salt to your food in combination with our finishing blends - we leave the choice up to you!A NOTE ON STORAGE
Spices are best stored in airtight packaging, away from sunlight and heat. To keep our spice blends as fresh as possible, we pack them into resealable, opaque pouches. Seal after each use and store away from sunny windowsills and sources of heat, such stovetops. If you forget to seal the pouch, the spice blend may begin to lose aroma. Please note that even if you keep our spice blends sealed securely, you may notice some clumping - this is because we do not use the anti-caking additives. Don't worry if this happens - simply give the blend a stir or use your fingertips to break down any small clumps.
