Hot Chocolate Spice, 22g

Hot Chocolate Spice, 22g

Warm up with our hot chocolate spice!  We've skillfully blended together richly flavoured ancho chilli with sweet Sri Lankan cinnamon, fragrant tonka bean, and warming nutmeg and allspice.  The perfect match for chocolate, these spices add depth and a hint of fruity flavour as well as a building heat, depending on how much you use.

This tin contains 22g of pure spice - we recommend stirring a teaspoon (2g) through your mug of hot chocolate (click here to see our 75g tins of Spiced Hot Chocolate, ready to mix with hot milk)

Although we've created this blend specifically with hot chocolate in mind, why not try adding it to chocolate sauces, brownies and chocolate mousses too!

Hot Chocolate Recipe - Makes 2 small cups

Ingredients

50g chocolate, broken into small pieces (we like to use 75%)

300ml milk

3-5g hot chocolate spice, depending on taste, plus a wee bit extra to sprinkle on top

Optional: sugar, to taste

Pour the milk into a small saucepan, and add the hot chocolate spice (we recommend starting with 3g, then adding more to taste if you like.) Slowly warm the milk over a gentle heat, taking care not to let it burn.  Once it's hot, remove the pan from the hob and throw in the chopped chocolate.  Whisk or stir thoroughly until all the chocolate has melted, then taste and if liked stir in sugar.

  • WHY DON'T WE ADD SUGAR OR SALT TO OUR BLENDS?

The spices we skilfully combine give such a flavour boost on their own, so we don't add salt or sugar to our blends. Some spices have an inherent sweetness - combining these makes delicious, sweet-tasting blends. There are a few exceptions, such as our Smoky Maple Rub, in which we use a small amount of maple sugar to offset the flavours of the spices, and our Spiced Coffee Sugar. Other spices we utilise for their deeply savoury qualities. Salt is sometimes used whilst processing sumac berries and in curing chillies such as Urfa and Aleppo, and as such, may be present in small quantities in some of our blends. We also have a small range of flavoured salts, in which we combine natural sea salt or rock salt with delicious herbs and spices.
You may like to add a sprinkle of salt to your food in combination with our finishing blends - we leave the choice up to you!

  • A NOTE ON STORAGE

Spices are best stored in airtight packaging, away from sunlight and heat. To keep our finishing blends as fresh as possible, we pack them into screw-lid tins. Replace the lids after each use, and store away from sunny windowsills and sources of heat, such stovetops. If you forget to replace the lid, the finishing blend may begin to lose aroma. Please note that even if you keep our finishing blends sealed securely, you may notice some clumping - this is because we do not use anti-caking additives. Don't worry if this happens - simply give the blend a stir or use your fingertips to break down any small clumps.
